portfolio of well over 1,000 different electronic, electro-mechanical and
mechanical assemblies. The "diversity of technologies" that spans Island
Technical Service's capabilities include a 16-ton apparatus for antenna
positioning and a 2-cubic-inch Power Supply.
Major ITS customers include Northrop Grumman,
Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Fairchild Systems, Brooklyn Union Gas, EDO
Corporation, Harvard, United Technologies, Boeing,
the Department of Defense, the US Army, the US
Navy and the US Air Force.

The Quality Management System of ITS complies
with ISO 9001:2000 and AS 9100:2004 for the manufacture of electro-mechanical assemblies for
the aircraft industry, as recognized by World Certification Services Ltd.

ITS is staffed by a talented group of mechanical, thermal,
electrical and packaging engineers and production personnel. While the small
size enables ITS to be dynamic, our resourcefulness and experience make us
uniquely poised to efficiently serve the needs of our clients. Our engineering
staff utilize the latest CAD programs enabling us to efficiently and
accurately simulate electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of our
designs, well before they enter production. By co-locating engineering and
production in the same facility, ITS can efficiently solve problems, if
they arise, and quickly implement corrective action.
Often our clients need an electrical, mechanical
or electro-mechanical device designed, yet require only a
small quantity to be produced. This is the type of project that ITS thrives on! A major advantage to the
modest size of ITS, is our ability to address small-quantity programs. Should
large quantities be required, ITS can provide a full level 3 drawing
package, including test procedures, allowing designs to
be smoothly transitioned from small-scale to large-scale production. ITS also maintains legacy
capabilities, such as wire wrap, should needs arise to build, repair or
modify vintage
hardware.
Island
Technical Service had a simple, yet interesting, beginning. In the spring of
1970, Ken Collins listened intently as a friend described a problem he was
experiencing in the development of a satellite navigation system. The system
required an AC/DC Power Converter (Power Supply) but because only six units
were initially needed, it was impossible to foster any interest in the large
power supply manufacturers at the time. Ken reviewed the specifications, and decided to design and build the six units himself in the
basement of his Long Island home. It was there that Island Technical Service
was born.
After the
success of the initial six units, ITS was then contracted to build the total
quantity of twenty. Soon after, the humble company housed in the basement of
Ken's home was receiving orders to design and/or build additional products
including Interface Tests
Adapters, Monitoring Systems and other Power Supplies. From these modest
beginnings, ITS has grown to become the dynamic company it is today.
